Rob Simopoulos, Defendify Co-Founder, recently hosted a presentation at the ISACA New England Chapter’s Maine event in Portland, Maine on September 27th. The event brought together cybersecurity and risk management professionals from all over New England for a day of education and networking.
ISACA New England is a member chapter of ISACA International, which is now into its’ 50th year as a global association helping individuals and enterprises achieve the positive potential of securely operating and managing Information Systems in highly regulated business environments. Today’s world is powered by ever-advancing software technologies, and ISACA equips professionals with the knowledge, credentials, education and community to advance their careers and transform their organizations accordingly. The New England Chapter was founded in 1976, and has grown to include over 2000 members across New England.
Rob’s presentation covered the state of cybersecurity for Small Business, including the challenges that smaller organizations face and steps they are taking to protect themselves. Additionally, Rob discussed the growth of third-party cybersecurity risk assessments and the surrounding challenges. Third-party assessments are becoming more common, and small businesses often don’t know how to prepare for, or respond to, the questions asked.
Given that 50% of cyberattacks target Small Business and that larger organizations often rely on these small vendors for products and services, the conversation was timely. Rob touched on the importance of educating Small Business on cybersecurity threats and awareness. Information security professionals have a degree of responsibility to educate smaller businesses about cybersecurity and risk, especially considering how it affects the business landscape overall.
