Defendify Co-Founder Rob Simopoulos was recently invited to join the Maine State Bar Association’s Real Estate Institute as the Plenary Speaker on May 3rd in Augusta, Maine. Defendify’s presentation, Cybersecurity: Raising the Bar covered cybersecurity threats that real estate law professionals need to know about and taught them steps they can take to how to protect their business.
Protecting sensitive client information, meeting compliance requirements, and working with lenders and title insurance underwriters requires special attention to cybersecurity risk – and that’s where the plenary session comes in. Attendees of the Real Estate Institute learned how to recognize and prevent Business Email Compromise and wire fraud and techniques to protect sensitive information, data, and client privacy.
Additional cybersecurity awareness points covered included recent cybersecurity incidents and events, the importance of cybersecurity policies and response plans, and how to build a culture of cyber-defenders in the workplace. Due to the important topics discussed, attendees also had the opportunity to earn Continuing Education credit for attending the event and cybersecurity seminar.
Cybersecurity can seem complicated at first, but Defendify’s presentation helped to simplify the conversation and provide steps that real estate law professionals can take to reduce vulnerabilities.
