Cyber-Declaration of Independence

Cyber-Declaration of Independence

On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed and the United States of America was born.

We celebrate with fireworks and a good old all-American barbeque. It’s a chance to connect with family and friends, thank our local heroes, and celebrate the great nation we live in.

It’s the land of the free and the home of the brave. Let’s keep it that way!

Like the generations before us, it’s incumbent upon us all to be vigilant freedom fighters. It’s especially important in today’s world of borderless hacks and attacks, and to protect the lifeblood of our economy: Small Business.

Small Business, big impact.

The Small Business Administration (SBA) generally defines a “small” business as having up to 500 employees. Small businesses are everywhere, and they aren’t all family grocery stores or one-room startups either. Did you know:

  • 99.7% of our nation’s employers are “small” businesses.
  • 48% of the U.S. workforce is employed by “small” businesses.

Small Business is a crucial part of the American economy—from local coffee shops to national law firms to international manufacturers. They support nearly half our workforce, spur innovation, and add flavor to our communities. Every business that exists today started small (did you know that Amazon got its start out of Jeff Bezos’ garage?).

Some ventures fail and some thrive, but it’s the entrepreneurial spirit and vigilance that drives small businesses to succeed—even under significant stress and risk. They do something a little different. That’s what sets them apart and why they drive our economy. As John F. Kennedy once said, “Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth.”

Speaking of JFK, cybersecurity is our New Frontier.

As history progresses so do the threats. Today, cybercrime is growing and an ever-changing challenge for businesses. Almost a day doesn’t go by without hearing about a recent data breach or ransomware attack. Large corporations and enterprises aren’t the only ones with targets on their backs:

  • A recent report shows that 68% of small businesses have experienced a cyberattack in the past 12 months alone.

A cyber incident can cost a business significantly, financially and reputationally. For a smaller organization, that can mean closing its doors. We work too hard to have our progress slowed by dealing with a cyber incident, especially when there is so much we can do to protect ourselves. That’s why it’s so important we all take steps to defend against the variety of growing threats.

What are we doing to help?

Our mission is to make cybersecurity possible for Small Business: The companies that underscore our nation’s economy and that are on the frontlines of today’s cyberthreat landscape.

We’re entrepreneurs ourselves, as passionate about Small Business as we are about cybersecurity. That’s why we built Defendify, to help small and midsize organizations protect themselves with comprehensive cybersecurity that is easy to use, flexible, formidable, and affordable.

Born and made in the USA.

We’re proud to say that Defendify was born, lives, and is supported in the great American city of Portland, Maine. Defendify was designed to uphold our nation’s ideals in today’s modern world and with it’s recent release, it sure is an honor to share the birthday season with America itself.

To cyber-defenders everywhere protecting our land of the free and home of the brave, wishing you a safe, secure, and happy 4th of July!
